ABOUT TANGO

The dance, one of the most sensual in the world, was originated in Buenos Aires during the late XIX century. The music derived from the fusion of music from Europe, the South American Milonga, and African rhythms. The word Tango seems to have first been used in connection with the dance in the 1890s.

At the start, Tango was only practiced by men, European immigrants remembering their past life in Europe. It became popular throughout society, as theatres and street barrel organs spread it from the suburbs to the working-class slums, which were packed with hundreds of thousands of immigrants.

It grew up, knew declines, revivals and evolutions. Without lyrics at the beginning, in 1913, Carlos Gardel added his voice to the music and became famous in all the world.

You can see Tango show in a lot of place. In La Boca's streets during the day, in the Microcentro or in San Telmo's cabarets and old bars. Anyway they all have their own charm and specification.
